Avon City Ford commenced trading in 1965 from the current five-acre site opposite the southern roundabout on Blenheim Road, the main arterial route south out of Christchurch. Since then, it has developed into one of the major dealerships in the South Island selling Ford passenger and light commercial vehicles. Avon City Mahindra operates from the same site with the Mahindra franchise.
